Aims of Module
To promote development of the student as a reflective, autonomous professional, with the capability to: - lead development, evaluation, or applied research projects. - lead and manage enhancement and change in teaching, learning and assessment. To achieve the requirements of UK-PSF Standard 2, and recognition as Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Demonstrate critical awareness of current issues in higher education relating to their subject/discipline or specialism.

Plan and execute a significant project of development, evaluation, investigation or research on a topic relevant to teaching, learning or assessment.

Demonstrate creativity in teaching practice, with evaluation of impact.

Critically evaluate practice and demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development. Indicative, broad, generic outcomes are noted above. As part of the PDP process, students will be expected to propose and negotiate more specific intended learning outcomes that reflect the focus of their learning activities, and relate to relevant external reference points (SCQF, UK-PSF, Nursing and Midwifery Council).

Indicative Module Content
Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement in higher education. Evaluation and research in higher education. Management of change in higher education. Innovations in higher and practice education. Research Methods. Practice Education or Advanced technologies or Research supervision. Re-visiting topics from Module 1, in greater breadth or depth. Plus a project. The project topics are to be negotiated between the student, mentor and tutor. Indicative project titles include: • Higher Education Learning and Teaching • eLearning/Blended Learning • Practice Education • Research Supervision.

| Assessment will be negotiated between the student, mentor and tutor to reflect the student’s work role and module learning outcomes. The module will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence comprising of: peer observation of teaching and a project or case study report. * Note: Nursing and midwifery students will provide a log of 360 hours of teaching practice to meet the requirements of the NMC Teacher Standard.

Additional Notes
Nursing and Midwifery students are required to undertake a minimum of 6 weeks (180 hours) teaching activities in Module 2 in both academic and practice settings.
