Aims of Module
To apply knowledge gained throughout the course to methodically solve a real world problem, by systematically carrying out requirement analysis, justifying through literature review and adhering to an appropriate research methodology, in order to develop and evaluate a project solution which satisfies established standards.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Justify a valid and challenging research question through the creation of a comprehensive literature review.
2 Execute a requirements analysis, by using appropriate requirements gathering methods, to clearly articulate the objectives of the project.
3 Devise a feasible project plan, attend scheduled meetings with Client/Supervisor and successfully manage the project to completion.
4 Execute suitable technologies and appropriate analysis, design, implementation, testing and other relevant techniques to develop an appropriate project solution/artefact.
5 Justify the project in the form of a professionally documented report including legal, social, ethical and professional issues relevant to the project, and completing a Viva Voce demonstration.

Indicative Module Content
System’s concept, Closed Systems, Open Systems, Systems Development methodologies and processes for data modelling, Data and Process modelling techniques, Interfaces, mechanisms for data repository, requirement collection and requirement modelling, Proposal development, Literature reviewing, Development of project solution using a range of technologies, Social, Ethical, Professional and Legal issues associated with research project, Research Methods, Testing and Evaluation, Thesis writing.
