Aims of Module
To provide students with the opportunity to use the skills and knowledge gained during taught elements of the course to practise computing in a business environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Operate effectively, on appropriate computer-based tasks, within a business context.
2 Co-operate effectively with team members and work colleagues with due regard to business processes and company policies.
3 Gain practical skills in relevant technical aspects of computing, appropriate to the mission of the employer organisation, as well as develop greater communication, collaboration and project management skills.
4 Demonstrate an understanding of enterprise skills needed for modern business organisations and discuss the role of entrepreneurship in commercial computing contexts.
5 Critically discuss the legal, social, ethical and professional issues associated with the placement activities, and their wider impact on the employer's business.

Indicative Module Content
This is a work-based placement within the computing or Information Technology domain. The content of the module will depend on the type of placement undertaken, the environment in which the student operates, and the specific details of the work involved.

Supervised placement within a company. Students are allocated a tutor at RGU to oversee the process and provide support.

Description: One written review made by the company's supervisor. This process is monitored by an academic tutor appointed from the staff, who will make at least one visit to the company premises within the placement period.

The calculation of the overall grade for this module is based on 100% weighting of C1. An overall minimum grade D is required to pass the module.
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A The student needs to achieve an A in C1
B The student needs to achieve a B in C1
C The student needs to achieve a C in C1
D The student needs to achieve a D in C1
E The student needs to achieve an E in C1
F The student needs to achieve an F in C1
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The placement is optional, and the 15 credits awarded are in addition to 120 credits achievable from the taught subjects. Successful completion is not required for progression to the next stage. The 15 credits for placement may not be used to compensate for any credits from the taught subjects.
