Aims of Module
This module gives a general introduction to information systems, including information architecture and interface design. It provides students with practical knowledge of the information system development process, user requirements analysis and management, associated techniques and technologies with a focus on information systems.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Explain key components of information systems, information system analysis, design and implementation.
2 Describe the nature of risk to information and information systems and the main security risks associated to information systems and how these can be managed and mitigated.
3 Assess the different contexts for web systems (mobile devices, consumer devices, business applications, web, business applications, collaboration systems, games, etc.) and define a user-centred design that explicitly recognises standards and best practice, and is DDA compliant (Disability Discrimination Act).
4 Create effective verbal and visual presentations with clear and concise delivery and appropriate visualisations in order to demonstrate analytical and critical thinking.
5 Assess the different contexts for designing management information systems and define a user-centred design that explicitly recognises standards and best practice.

Indicative Module Content
Social, professional and legal issues around information services such as DDA. Problem solving associated with discovering and learning to use cutting−edge web technologies effectively. Module content will allow for an introduction to client−side security such as user input validation. CIA triad Standards and Best Practice Guides: ISO 27001, ISO 27005

Module Delivery
This module uses the following delivery modes: Guided study (lectures, tutorials, and other learning materials delivered through VLE + bibliography), mentored practical work undertaken in the workplace, project work in the workplace including a design brief, personal study, group reflective sessions via VLE and at RGU Key concepts are introduced and illustrated through lectures (physical and virtual). Theory is put into practice in the workplace guided by a mentor. The understanding of students is tested and further enhanced through virtual interactive labs and tutorials.

The calculation of the overall grade for this module is based on 50% weighting of C1 and 50% weighting of C2. An overall minimum grade of D is required to pass the module.
