Aims of Module
To provide a solid foundation in English communication needed for university studies, to develop students' confidence and ability to communicate effectively in English as their working language using reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Employ suitable grammar and vocabulary for an academic setting as well as real-world.
2 Present the ability to write grammatically correct essays, letters and other forms of writing to an academic standard.
3 Present suitable slides with a clear, concise layout, displaying professional presentation techniques and suitable listening skills.
4 Apply reading techniques like skimming, scanning and summarising to demonstrate the ability to read.

Indicative Module Content
Remedial English/Grammar and study of vocabulary . Oral Communication: in-class discussions, speeches, debates, presentations and general conversation. Written Communication: essays, emails, articles, abstracts and brief reports. Specialist Writing: report writing, descriptive writing, technical and scientific writing. Group Discussions: turn-taking and conducting meetings. Presentation Techniques: formal and informal presentations (group or individual). Reading \Techniques; skimming, scanning and extensive reading and reading for understanding (comprehension). Listening: for important information and for specific information.

Module Delivery
The module will consist of lectures and tutorials which will be activity-based language learning. The style of teaching will be interactive and activity based will be delivered online. Individual attention and evaluation will be provided to the students during sessions.
