Prerequisites for Module

Anyone undertaking this module is normally expected to have satisfactorily completed a degree (preferably at honours level) or the equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
They will also normally be expected to have completed Modules CLM001 (Principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment), CLM002 (Teaching and Learning Methods) and CLM003 (Assessment Methods) or the equivalent.

Aims of Module

To provide an opportunity for students to integrate and apply what they have learned about the principles and practice of Higher Education by teaching and assessing a major element of a course under the guidance of an experienced member of staff.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Integrate and apply their knowledge of the theory of Higher Education taching in planning, delivering and assessing a major element of a course.
2. Work effectively under the guidance of an experienced member of staff and accept constructive criticism from peers.
3. Produce a destailed log/development diary on their work as a Higher Education teacher together with a portfolio of evidence of their competence.
4. Reflect critically on their performance as a Higher Education teacher and carry out on-going evaluation of their work.
5. Demonstrate that their work is underpinned by appropriate principles and values.

This module synthesises together the materials covered in the preceding three modules. Students are expected to re-visit this material on a regular basis as they carry out the work of the module.

Mode of Delivery

This involves planning, delivering and assessing a major element of a course under the supervision of an experienced member of the teaching staff, reflecting deeply and critically on their work, and producing portfolio evidence of their competence. The detailed programme is agreed with the student's course tutor and supervisor.

This is a competence-based module, with the students being assessed regarsdisng their achievement on all five of the module learning outcomes. This involves self-assessment by the student, assessment by a subject specialist (normally the programme supervisor) and assessment by an educational specialist (normally the course tutor). The assessment is based on the examination of the portfolio of evidence of competence produced by the student and informal oral examinations. being a competence-based module, no weighting of the individual assessments is involved.
