Aims of Module
The aims of this module are: to provide students with the ability to comply with the legal and regulatory frameworks that apply to digital information management and to make ethical decisions based on professional and/or corporate ethical values.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate current legal and ethical issues relating to digital information management;
2 Critically analyse the detail and implications of key legislation, case law and regulatory frameworks on service provision and delivery;
3 Construct reasoned approaches to digital information management that are informed by good practice while ensuring compliance with legal requirements
4 Effectively communicate professional solutions to specific information governance challenges

Indicative Module Content
Information lifecycle and continuum models, information audits, professional codes of practice, ethical decision making models, approaches to legal analysis, information management and security standards, quality management and certification, intellectual property rights, database rights, data protection, freedom of information.

Explanatory Text
All sub-parts of both components must be undertaken to complete the module. The final module grade is calculated as the weighted average of the component marks. To pass the module the student must achieve a minimum of a grade D and at least 35% in all components.

B 60%-69%
C 50%-59%
D 40%-49%
E 35%-39%
F 0%-34%
