Aims of Module | |||

To build a critical understanding of the core financial as well as non-financial dimensions to analyse and understand the financial impact of business decisions for the successful management of the company. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate a detailed understanding and application of how financial analysis will help validate or disprove the financing, investment and operating decisions of the firm. |
2 | Evaluate and synthesise financial statements into comparative figures, thus helping to compare and evaluate the financial position of the firm and the results of the decisions. |
3 | Apply decision-making in the areas of Corporate Finance (financing and investments) as well as manage the strategic and operational implementation within a planning game and understand the consequences (financial as well as non-financial) of these decisions. |
4 | Demonstrate a critical understanding and application of the financial planning and its interaction with the product cycle and business strategy in a real-world setting. |
5 | Enhance decision-making, communication and presentation techniques. |

Detailed understanding and application of balance sheet analysis; key ratio analysis; profit and loss analysis; value contribution ratios; value analysis; break-even analysis; liquidity analysis; business start-up planning; investment and financing decisions; strategic orientation and operational implementation; key figures for the divisions (marketing, personnel, finances, research and development) |
Module Delivery |
---|
Face-to-face classroom methods (lectures, tutorials) are combined with computer-mediated activities and game-based learning approaches. Paper and/or web-based learning materials, seminars, and/or online support, with group work supported by discussion forums. Emphasis is placed on an interactive approach to communication and learning, with student involvement fostered through discussions and group work. |
