Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
This module aims at developing the students' critical understanding of the theories and concepts of leadership in business. Through analysing contemporary management challenges and applying personality and leadership trait models to action, students develop their critical ability to appreciate the impact of cultural clusters and individual personality traits on the success of business. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Generate a personal audit and make informed judgements that need to be taken to development their own leadership competencies. |
2 | Evaluate traits and heredity on the impact the leader has on his followers. |
3 | Appraise the major theoretical approaches to leadership and how they can be applied to various business operations. |
4 | Evaluate the ethical, organisational, social and environmental elements affecting the leaderships styles and practices in global business sectors. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The module begins by introducing the nature of leadership and differences with management. Students are walked-through the development of leadership theories: power, politics and conflict, trait theories, situational theories, dispersed/distributed theories, and transactional and transformational views. Furthermore, applications to multi-national businesses, leaders as agents of change, managing the change process and measurement of goals are analysed and discussed. |
