Aims of Module
This module will enable students to develop a deep understanding of the underlying principles of research methods and professional research practice. Students will develop the capability to identify and utilise appropriate strategies and techniques in the context of an individual research investigation.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate relevant research topics and questions related to international business practice in a variety of contexts to identify opportunities for an individual research investigation.
2 Appraise major research approaches and methodologies that will assist in the development and management of the research process in a professional context.
3 Synthesise research methods in the design and planning of a research proposal.

Indicative Module Content
The module begins by introducing the purpose of research, research rationale, philosophies and approaches in a business and social-sciences research context. Students explore conceptual frameworks and develop a research framework targeted towards an individual research investigation. Principle data collection methods, their application, and sampling techniques are analysed and discussed. This leads the students to the significance of formulating data collection questions leading to data analysis approaches and applications. Ethical issues in research, and project planning and development are discussed.

Module Delivery
The module will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and student-led activities, including a variety of case studies.
