Aims of Module
This module will enable students to understand how international and global companies recruit, develop and deploy human resources to maximize their contribution towards the accomplishment of strategic organizational objectives from a global perspective.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate current trends and development of HRM in various countries.
2 Appraise the objectives of workforce diversity and its impact on the organization's strategy.
3 Evaluate the challenges human resources managers are facing in an international context in all HRM functions from planning to performance management.
4 Generate a strategic human resources plan that supports the mission, goals, and strategies of an international company.

Indicative Module Content
The module begins with introducing the cultural context of HRM in international organizations. Students explore the approaches to IHRM in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, international alliances and SMEs. This is followed by reviewing various aspects related to IHRM functions such as sourcing human resources for global markets (staffing, recruitment and selection), international performance management and international training, development and international compensation. The module will be concluded with an examination of IHRM trends and future challenges.

This module will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and student-led activities including a variety of case studies.
