This module is designed to provide a platform for students to discuss, demonstrate and refine creative group practice through the production of a narrative short film.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Distinguish key film production concepts and roles regarding production, direction, cinematography, and editing.
2 Analyse the project and select appropriate equipment, actors, techniques, locations, and roles to interpret the screenplay.
3 Collaborate to group-solve challenges with the synthesis of relevant production, practical experience, and diplomacy.
4 Apply professional production techniques and workflows to collectively direct, shoot and edit a narrative filmmaking project.
5 Reflect on experiences by evaluating critically the success of the project, challenges of collective working and interpretation of the creative concept from script to screen.

Indicative Module Content
This is a learner-led module which will offer students the creative freedom to refine and express production decisions within an industry-typical, collaborative, filmmaking setting. Students will select and undertake production roles and be evaluated on their individual contribution to a group project. The module utilises a “mentorship model” with practising filmmakers supervising workshops used for project development, production meetings, and access to studio-recording and post-production facilities. Tutors will also provide situation-dependant learning and tailored support (in areas such as casting, scheduling, location scouting, crew roles, and directing and working with actors). Students will be encouraged to develop resilience, plan for contingency, and react constructively to inevitable challenges and setbacks. Content includes: an industry-typical, collaborative, film production experience, immersive experiences with practising filmmaker(s), individual project mentoring, peer review and evaluation. In the growing industry of film production this module aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. The module aims to develop key creative production skills that are demanded in a growing employability market. The module also aligns itself with UNESCO Competencies such as, Strategic, Collaboration and Self-Awareness given the need to collaboratively plan and produce a narrative project in a production team and then reflect on the overall process.

Module Delivery
This module will combine lectures, group seminars, and supervised, student-led workshops with practising production tutors in addition to guest industry speakers and digital resources.
