On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Identify and develop original news stories and/or features |
2 | Critically evaluate the challenges of original journalism in a multimedia environment. |
3 | Demonstrate an advanced understanding of editorial guidelines including (where appropriate) fairness, objectivity, balance, taste and decency, fair dealing. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
This module is about finding original stories and transforming them into compelling content: lectures will explore the future of the broadcast interview; the role of citizen journalism; fair dealing; objectivity; fairness; balance; and taste and decency. Newsdays will focus on editorial planning and production including accuracy, managing teams and working to deadlines. |
Module Delivery |
---|
This module combines lectures, seminars and workshops together with practical newsgathering. Where class sizes allow, there will be an opportunity to refine editorial and technical skills in live Newsday exercises. Students will also deliver a completed portfolio of broadcast stories. |
