Aims of Module
To provide the student with a basic understanding of the domestic legal framework within which business must operate and transact, familiarising the student with the most important legal issues of Swiss business law as well as to provide the student with a basic understanding of business law from an international perspective.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Interpret the various sources of law and the legal systems of Switzerland and the European Union;
2 Discuss the laws governing the economic system and be aware of how they affect the market;
3 Explain the essential laws of Swiss business law, knowing how to source the law and the corresponding authorities;
4 Demonstrate the basics of business law from an international perspective.

Indicative Module Content

Sources of law: constitution (BV), federal laws and case law; Sections of Swiss Business law: contract law (employment law, contract for services, sales contract, mandate); intellectual property law; consumer law, competition law; company law, insolvency law;

European law: crucial terms and sources of law; effects of the bilateral agreements.

Basic understanding of business law from an international perspective.


Module Delivery
This module will be delivered in the 2nd semester. The module is a lecture-based unit, supplemented by interactive tutorials and directed study, including case studies and group work.
