To provide an understanding of the key principles, practices and concepts of project management within a hospitality context. To apply project management tools and techniques to a simulated hotel project. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Critically discuss the 5 key project planning and control activities: cost, time, quality, scope and risk and the trade-offs and interaction between these variables. |
2 | Examine the project lifecycle and its relationship with project activities and processes. |
3 | Apply project planning and control tools and techniques to a simulated hospitality project. |
4 | Establish the change management procedures and processes required for effective project management. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Overview of project management principles and fundamental activities, tools and techniques and their application to hospitality projects. Project objectives, determining project scope and inter-relationships and the role and influence of stakeholders. Risk analysis and risk management strategies. The project life-cycle: phases of initiation, planning, execution, control and monitoring and close out. Small and large scale hospitality projects. The project environment, change control and its impact on managing scope, cost and schedule will also be explored. |
