Aims of Module
To enable students to evaluate hospitality business decisions with reference to the wider tourism environment and tourism destination stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Discuss the social, economic and environmental impacts of tourism on a global and national scale and the role of major industry players.
2 Analyse statistical tourism data and its implications for business, local and regional level tourism planning.
3 Evaluate the inter-relationship and opportunities between specific hospitality business units and the surrounding tourism sector.

Indicative Module Content
Scale and scope of the international tourism sector; key markets, flow patterns and demand trends, industry structures,competition, integration and digitalisation, and major industry national and multi-national players; social, economic and environmental impacts of tourism development; destination planning, development, life-cycles and sustainability; tourism transportation, models, policies and role of government; tourism and destination marketing, hospitality and tourism co-dependence.

Explanatory Text
The Module is assessed by three components: C1 - Individual presentation - 20% weighting. C2 - Group project- 30%. C3 - Exam - 50% weighting. Module Pass Mark = Grade D (40%)/ 4.0 Swiss grade scale
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A At least 70% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
B At least 60% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
C At least 50% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
D At least 40% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
E At least 35% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
F Less than 35% on weighted aggregate in one or both components.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination
