Aims of Module
To develop the student's critical understanding of the tools, principles and practices which can be applied to the development and implementation of Human Resource Management in hotel companies.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate understanding of the scope and range of HRM operations in a hotel business.
2 Assess the training needs and propose a staff training plan for a hotel department.
3 Assess the recruitment and staff evaluation processes for a hotel department.
4 Develop staff satisfaction measurement tools for a hotel department.
5 Propose a comprehensive human resource concept for a hotel business, justifying strategies to improve structures and processes.

Indicative Module Content
Hotel work environments and their social, cultural, economic, legal and business factors. The nature and scope of human resource management and responsibilities of HRM and department managers. Hotel employment patterns and sources of labour. The recruitment and selection process; staff evaluations and identification of training needs; the training cycle; design and delivery of training events; performance appraisals and reward strategies. Employee relations processes, policies and procedures as part of an HR concept.

The Module is assessed by two components: C1 - Individual report - 40% weighting. C2 - Group Case Project - 60%. Module Pass Mark = Grade D (40%)/ 4.0 Swiss grade scale
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A At least 70% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
B At least 60% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
C At least 50% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
D At least 40% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
E At least 35% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component.
F Less than 35% in one or both components.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination
