To provide students with the opportunity to apply academic and practitioner knowledge and skills to an internal news based project. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Perform, demonstrate and explain a range of appropriate news project skills and tasks, taking account of practical and managerial criteria for performance. |
2 | Relate the theories, models, concepts and principles of formal study to a news based practical project. |
3 | Demonstrate effective self-evaluation of experience and skills gained whilst engaged in the practical news based project. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The module offers a six-week period of professional practice within a university based news setting. Students gain the opportunity to experience the practicalities and challenges of a news based project and develop evaluative and reflective practitioner skills and attitudes. Students are also expected to critically evaluate the news creation environment; e.g. operational and managerial structures, communication practices, financial profile and process, product mix (where appropriate) and professional practices. |
Module Delivery |

Pre-project briefings and supervisory support; supervised and unsupervised assignments and tasks relating to the project; student centred learning and private study. Supervision is provided by the module tutor who will monitor the student's progress and the appropriateness of the learning experience. |
