Aims of Module
This module will enable students to:
Show a critical understanding of the principles and practices which influence the development and implementation of Human Resource Management (HRM) in international companies.
Demonstrate application of international HRM theories to the global hospitality sector and propose strategies to meet company, legal and ethical needs.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the IHRM strategies and practices that are developed and implemented by international organisations and hotel companies operating on a global basis.
2 Diagnose and explain the factors that influence the success or otherwise of an international expatriate assignment.
3 Critically evaluate strategies addressing cultural differences and diversity within the workforce.

Indicative Module Content
Contemporary issues in Human Resource Management (HRM) and the International Human Resource Management (IHRM). The impact of globalization on HRM: IHRM in MNCs, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Equality, diversity and fairness in MNCs and the hospitality sector. Culture and IHRM. International Mobility: expatriate assignments vs local labour markets. Recruitment and selection in the international context. Cross-cultural training and development of international staff. International performance appraisal and reward. International employee voice and turnover/retention.

Module Delivery
This module will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and student-led activities including a variety of case studies.

Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A At least 70% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
B At least 60% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
C At least 50% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
D At least 40% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
E At least 35% on weighted aggregate
F Less than 35% on weighted aggregate
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination
