Aims of Module | |||

This module will enable students to:
Develop students' critical understanding of the theories and concepts of leadership. Understand contemporary management challenges relevant to the hospitality sector. Apply personality and leadership trait models to action plans for their own professional development. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Discuss the major theoretical approaches to leadership and how these can be applied to hospitality operations. |
2 | Evaluate the ethical, organisational, social and environmental elements affecting leaderships styles and practices in the global hospitality sectors. |
3 | Undertake a personal audit and identify development actions for the development of their own leadership competencies. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The nature of leadership and differences with management. Development of leadership theories: power, politics and conflict, trait theories, situational theories, dispersed/distributed theories, and transactional and transformational views. Applications to multi-national hotel and tourism companies. Leaders as agents of change, managing the change process and measurement of goals. |
