Aims of Module

1. To enable the student to evaluate and reflect critically on their personal and professional development and practical learning experience.
2. To provide the student with an ability to demonstrate the ability to apply their knowledge and understanding of health and safety and risk management to a current workplace related problem.


Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Provide evidence of continuing professional development by means of a portfolio in which students reflect on experiences acquired in the course of their studies.
2. Investigate and diagnose an aspect of health, safety and risk in an organisational setting, to search and critically evaluate data from primary and/or secondary resources in order to prepare a report to management.

Indicative Module Content

Philosophy of professional body’s professional development policy; concept of a professional development portfolio; the student to log and reflect on past learning experiences and based on these, plan future development.
The report will provide an opportunity to give practical effect to one or more aspects of the topics studied in the various modules. Research methodology; project management; research design and methods of data collection and analysis.

Mode of Delivery

The module is delivered in executive part time mode incorporating attending on campus workshops in addition to self directed learning from paper based or web-based learning materials, supported by on line assistance.
The module is also delivered in an online mode by self directed learning from web-based learning materials with online support.

Component 1: A completed CPD Portfolio which is graded on a competent or not competent basis. Students must be competent in this component to pass the module.
