Aims of Module

To enable the student to develop and apply information skills and knowledge in a professional work placement.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1.	To synthesise the contribution of the host department and placement job role to the placement organisation/provider.
2.	To reflect on the knowledge and skills gained on the professional fieldwork placement.
3.	To evaluate the contribution of theory to professional practice in the fieldwork placement.
4.	To apply skills assessment and profiling tools to identify strengths and development areas for personal development and to produce a Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Indicative Module Content

Skills Assessment; Career Objective Setting; CV Writing; Reflective Writing; Personal Development Planning; Four-week placement experience, in an appropriate organisation, as an information/library professional.

Mode of Delivery

Full-time students: Pre-placement seminars/worshops and personal placement tutor support from academic staff during the placement period.
Distance Learning Students: Online topics/activities and tutor support (including discussion forums and chat sessions) from academic staff.

Indicative Bibliography

1.	Students will be guided to particular information sources related to preparation for the professional fieldwork placement experience including CV writing, skills assessment, personal development planning, reflective writing and report writing.

Additional Notes

Distance learning students who have current or recent relevant work experience, which has been approved by their Course Leader, may complete the coursework assignments by drawing on this experience rather than from completing a four-week full-time placement.
