Aims of Module

To provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate knowledge and professional competence in the technical implementation of projects as part of a project team and to instill a committment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through an ability to systematically and continuously review personal development.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Work effectively as a member of a team to implement the technical requirements within a project
2. Evaluate and select appropriate research and consultancy methodologies and detailed research methods for the collection, analysis and synthesis of data.
3. Assemble, evaluate and reflect on their individual CPD portfolio in line with professional standards recognised by the project management profession.

Indicative Module Content

The student will be introduced to the different methodoldogies for collecting and analysing data within a project management organisational setting, viz: research and consultancy methodology, managing a research or consultancy project, qualitative and quantitative research designs and methods of data collection and analysis.

Students are introduced to the concept of Continual Professional Development within the context, standards and procedures of the project management profession. Studnets wil be able to contruct CPD portfolios and record, evaluate and reflect on individual CPD evidence. Throughout the execution of the team project and in relation to other Project Management practice (if applicable) students will record an individual CPD portfolio.

The team project permits student to work as part of a project team to manage the technical base of a real or case project(technical is used in the broadest of terms and includes projects that would normally be regarded as non-technical,such as change projects).

The effective management of the technical base of the project involves ensuring that: the project's requirements are clear stated; the technical base is elaborated with regard to the required quality, technical, safety, environmental and other standards; that an appropriate technology strategy is in place (where appropriate); that design is value optimised; that the work required is accurately estimated; that implementations is effectively managed; that testing plans and practices are initiated and that handover is effectively managed.

There will be a short team placement to help deliver this module.

A CPD portfolio of evidence (30% of grade) which will contain a CV, a personal development plan and a learning log containing evidence of reflection throughout the team project.

A Team report (70% of grade) which illustrates the evaluation and implementation of the technical requirements within a project. The report will present evidence of research and research methods.
