Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to enable students to understand the nature of change in the business environment and the most common tools, theories and pitfalls of change management.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Appreciate the characteristics of the main approaches to managing change;

Understand key strategies, procedures and tools in order to initiate and accompany change within organisations;

Evaluate a range of case examples of organisations, which have successfully managed change.

Approaches to managing change in an organisation and appreciation of the role that staff play as part of the organisation’s development; Critical success factors for change; Leadership and project management; Corporate social responsibility, sustainability and ethics; Role of human capital / social capital and motivation for change management; Stakeholder analysis and management; Communication models and systemic thinking; Organisational design and change management; “What’s in it for me” and the influence of hidden agendas; Conflict management; Optimisation of business processes; Stages of change management; Dealing with obstacles; Monitoring of results; Methods to analyse soft skills; Balanced scorecard; Workshop methods and facilitation.

Mode of Delivery
This module will be delivered in the 1st semester. The module is a lecture-based unit, supplemented by interactive tutorials and directed study, including case studies and group work.
