Aims of Module
To analyse the ways in which changes within the global economic and business environment impact upon the management strategies of global organisations, international monetary exchanges and managerial economics.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse fundamental aspects of the environment in which advanced and emerging economies co-exist;
2 Critically evaluate the ways in which changes within the global economic and business environment impact upon the management strategies of global organisations, international monetary exchanges and managerial economics.
3 Analyse how economies are built, their cycles, and how growth and recession parameters impact on businesses.

Indicative Module Content
Presents the fundamental aspects of global economics and the environment in which advanced and emerging economies co-exist. Principles and theories of microeconomics; macroeconomics; global economics; ideologies and philosophies; advanced and emerging economies; econometrics; exchange markets and international money capital; managerial economics; political and legal risks; cultural impacts; competition. The domestic and international economic environment, economic concepts, demand and supply, firms and markets, market structure, business objectives, profit maximisation, managerial and behavioural models, cost in theory and practice, pricing, competitiveness and productivity, market failure.

Module Delivery
Face-to-face classroom methods (lectures, tutorials) are combined with computer-mediated activities. Paper and/or web-based learning materials, seminars and/or on-line support, with group work supported by discussion forums. Emphasis is placed on an interactive approach to communication and learning, with student involvement fostered through discussions and group working.
