Aims of Module
To provide students with the opportunity to undertake supervised, independent research into a self-developed topic relevant to their degree subject, and to apply the full range of associated research skills required to produce a research thesis.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Undertake a comprehensive literature review of the topic under investigation and write a comprehensive and logical evaluation of the salient aspects.
2 Design and implement an appropriate research methodology taking full account of the range of alternative techniques and approaches.
3 Plan and write a thesis which demonstrates both a detailed understanding of the selected topic and a logical consistency in approach.

Indicative Module Content
Practical guidance on undertaking a self-directed research project; method-specific analysis workshops; one-to-one research supervision from within degree route discipline.

Module Delivery
Delivered over Semester 1 and Semester 2 as a supervised research based course within the subject discipline of the chosen degree route, supplemented with lectures and workshops.
