Aims of Module
To enable students to evaluate leadership theory and practice and to explain how effective leadership and management behaviour can influence organisational performance in a global context.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate contemporary leadership theories and emerging trends.
2 Analyse the significance of the function of leadership and its influence on global organisational performance.
3 Explain the sources of leadership power and the contribution of followers in creating and sustaining leaders in a global context.
4 Evaluate a range of variables which impact on leadership effectiveness, such as gender, culture and environment.

Indicative Module Content
Management and leadership philosophies and theories; leadership styles, skills, effects and principles; leadership in action; organisational leader case studies; strategies for management development; power and authority; team leading; creating and sustaining global leadership; cross-cultural leadership; leadership contexts
