Aims of Module
To enable students to demonstrate independent research and consultancy skills by undertaking a final year work-based project on an appropriate topic aligned to their degree which will add value and impact to their respective organisation.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate their sector and workplace to identify and propose a research-evidenced independent work-based consultancy project plan and work scope with consideration of professional and ethical codes or practices.
2 Systematically engage, synthesise and critique the relevant literature to provide a clear academic underpinning to the work-based project.
3 Logically develop appropriate professional research and data gathering skills to undertake engagement with the project's key stakeholders.
4 Critically evaluate, present and discuss the results of the research in an appropriate and professional manner.
5 Critically reflect on the learning and development from the relevant theories, concepts and debates evolving from the work-based activities executed during the student's final year of study.

Indicative Module Content
Identification of a problem or opportunity; negotiating scope of work and formulating a research proposal plan; selection of a suitable research design; consideration of research ethics; data collection and analysis; consideration of sustainability goals such as UNSDGs; preparing and presenting findings and output; preparing proposals and recommendations; written management report.

Self-directed study, learning and research, guidance on the skills required to complete the task and supported by an academic supervisor.
