Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to develop a critical understanding of the context and key components of health and safety management in the work place.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
||Critically discuss the factors which oblige organisations to manage health and safety.|
||Review and evaluate the various means by which organisations manage health and safety.|
||Analyse current practices in use in organisations and the implications for all aspects of performance.|
||Communicate knowledge and understanding of key concepts in a clear and concise way, orally and in writing, and through the use of appropriate group involvement techniques to facilitate the learning of others.|
Indicative Module Content
The module will seek to develop a good foundation of key aspects in health and safety. These components will include: health and safety law; people and their behaviours; accident investigation, hazard identification and risk management; and safety management systems. The learning will also be supplemented with guest speakers from a variety of industries. This will help develop a deeper understanding of the issues and the context of why health and safety is important, current obligations on employers and employees, health and safety systems and required practices to manage health and safety effectively.

This module is a lecture based module with student-led seminars, directed self-study and private study.
