Aims of Module

To provide students with a working understanding of Family Law in Scotland and in particular the relationships of Husband and Wife; Civil Partnership; Cohabitees and Parent and Child.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1.	Consider and analyse the main principles of family law.
2.	Critically evaluate and analyse the legal consequences of key family law relationships such as marriage, civil partnership and parent and child.
3.	Apply the understanding of the legal consequences of the key family law relationships to practical situations.

Indicative Module Content

Consideration of the features and legal consequences of marriage, matrimonial breakdown and the grounds for divorce, financial provision on divorce, cohabitation, legitimacy, parental rights and responsibilities, residence and contact, civil partnership, adoption and the key Human Rights Act 1998 implications of family law.
