Aims of Module
To provide the student with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and understanding as well as the personal transferable skills acquired in the programme in the real work environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Develop an understanding of the organisation in which they are placed.
2 Demonstrate skills, attitudes and behaviours appropriate to the workplace.
3 Recognise their own strengths and weaknesses as a potential manager.
4 Demonstrate evidence of, and reflect on new learning with regard to knowledge, skills and abilities required for effective functioning in the workplace.

Indicative Module Content
The content of the workplace internship will vary. However each student will draw up an agreed learning contract of tasks and objectives with the host organisation and devise a programme which will enable the learning outcomes specified above to be achieved.

Module Delivery
Delivery is by means of on-the-job training. In addition students may be required to attend specific staff development workshops as designated by the host organisation.

Component 1
Type: Coursework Weighting: 40% Outcomes Assessed: 3, 4
Description: CV evaluation and reflection
Component 2
Type: Coursework Weighting: 60% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2
Description: Staff appraisal by the organisation following the approved University assessment scheme for this element. Students will be given formative evaluation halfway through their work contract and a final, summative evaluation at the end of their working period. The student is required to provide a portfolio of evidence which will contain: (a) The initial learning contract, agreed between the student and employer; (b) The results of the formative evaluation; (c) Any additional evidence from performance reviews and development activities; (d) The final summative evaluation.

Explanatory Text
The Module is assessed by two components: C1 - Coursework - 40% weighting. C2 - Coursework - 60% weighting. Module Pass Mark = Grade D (40%)
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A At least 70% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
B At least 60% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
C At least 50% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
D At least 40% on weighted aggregate and at least 35% in each component
E At least 35% on weighted aggregate
F Less than 35% on weighted aggregate
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Students will normally receive remuneration during the workplace experience period, but are expected to fund travel and other expenses themselves. This module is for delivery at BHMS Luzern, Switzerland.
