Aims of Module | |||

To provide students with the opportunity to undertake a piece of supervised, independent research into a topic selected by them from a range of topics related to their degree specialism. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Conduct a comprehensive, subject specific literature search. |
2 | Communicate effectively in an academic written style, which makes judicious use of structure and evidence to build and justify arguments. |
3 | Synthesise arguments and ideas in a manner which displays a critical and balanced approach to the topic. |
4 | Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Literature searching and selection techniques; how to summarise individual pieces of literature; how to structure a review; how to use academic evidence; how to introduce synthesis and critique into their writing; how to reference using RGU Harvard; how to manage large numbers of references; how to work with an academic supervisor. |
Module Delivery |

In order to facilitate successful completion of this module, students will attend an introductory lecture programme which will provide initial guidance on the literature review process. This will be supported by tutorial meetings with subject specific supervisors. |
