Aims of Module
To provide an overview of the key principles, practices and concepts of project management operations, the tools and techniques used and an overall understanding of the broad project environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Recognise the project lifecycle, project purposes, tools and techniques and the project environment
2 Apply the commercial aspects involved in project management
3 Evaluate driving and managing change in project management
4 Understand risk and compliance management in the context of project management
5 Analyse the key variables of project management

Indicative Module Content
The module will provide students with an overview of project management and its key principles and practices; project life cycle and its underpinning role in monitoring project progress; processes of initiation and definition; business cases; objective setting; determining scope, identifying stakeholders, identifying risks, assessing strategies for delivering projects on budget and within scope; importance of people, communication and resources; leadership; structures and feedback paths through and across organisations; project schedule, change control mechanism; an introduction to the principles of sustainable project management

Module Delivery
This module is delivered in supported online learning mode using a range of structured learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor contact, allowing students to contextualise their learning to their own workplace where appropriate.
