Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Demonstrate a sound understandng of fundamental contract law principles and sources and their development in Scotland.
2. Develop an understanding in precedent and competence in the application of contract law to particular problems.
3. Exhibit analytical writing skills, and the ability to work independently.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the applicability of contract law principles in other legal subject areas.

General principles; law of obligations; unjustified enrichment; formation of contract; promise;illegality;contract terms; error; interpretation; incorporation and implied terms; unfair contract terms regime; termination; third party rights; breach of contract; remedies

Mode of Delivery

This is a lecture and tutorial based module. Lectures provide core module content. Tutorials develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning. In the distance learning mode, in addition, online activities will form part of the module contact time.

Component 1 - Written coursework worth 30% of the overall module grade.

Component 3 - Compliance on a pass/fail basis with the requirement to participate (refer further - Module Performance Descriptor) to a reasonable level in online forum and tutorial activities.

Component 2 - Examination worth 70% of the overall module grade.
