Aims of Module | |||

To provide the student with an understanding of the theories and related processes associated with tourism and sustainability, with a particular focus on the positive and negative impacts of tourism. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Explain the theoretical concepts relating to sustainable tourism development. |
2 | Describe the role and nature of the commercial and non-commercial sectors in sustainable tourism policy formulation. |
3 | Analyse the socio-economic impacts associated with tourism development. |
4 | Analyse the environmental impacts associated wih tourism development. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Tourism provision; the role of the private and public sectors within sustainable tourism; the role of the host community and the visitor within sustainable tourism; the nature and extent of political influences involved in tourism provision; economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts; environmental management tools; local, national and international dimensions. |
