Aims of Module
To develop introductory knowledge and understanding of personal and business finance within the context of a changing financial environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Explain the fundamental areas of finance for individuals and apply this knowledge to relevant decision-making contexts.
2 Understand the main types of personal and business taxation and apply the knowledge when preparing basic tax calculations.
3 Explain the key sources of finance for business and apply this knowledge to relevant business decision-making.
4 Understand and undertake basic business maths calculations prevalent in finance decisions.

Indicative Module Content
Personal Finance including loans, mortgages, savings, pensions, relevant insurances, direct and indirect taxation; Business Finance including sources, stock market, foreign currency, business mathematics, corporate taxation.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered in supported online distance learning mode using a range of structured learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor contact, allowing students to contextualise their learning to their own workplace where appropriate.
