Aims of Module
To enable the student to have an advanced understanding of quality management and regulation within clinical laboratories to improve quality.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically discuss the process of managing and improving all aspects of quality in an organisation.
2 Critically evaluate strategies in quality management in terms of their strengths and weaknesses and their implementation.
3 Demonstrate a critical understanding of the use of quality audit procedures.

Definitions of Quality; The role of Quality; Cost of poor quality; Quality frameworks; Laboratory Quality management systems; Laboratory accreditation; ISO 15189; ISO 22367; ISO 22870; Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency; Quality Assurance; Calibration; Quality control; Quality tools; Reference materials; Validation; Verification; Traceability; Measurement of uncertainty; Cultures of quality; Document control systems; Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); Audit; Continuous improvement; External quality assessment; Benchmarking; Occurrence management; Corrective and preventative action plan; Automated Systems; Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
