On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Design and implement a plan of work to collect and analyse data on a relevant topic. |
2 | Critically evaluate relevant literature to justify the need for research on a relevant topic. |
3 | Communicate and critically appraise the methods and findings of the research using written communication skills. |
4 | Demonstrate professional competence using oral communication skills to summarise and defend the research. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Research on a relevant topic, where the student must obtain, record, collate, process, analyse, interpret, present, report and critically evaluate data in a research project, using appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative methods and in accordance with the research governance framework. |
Module Delivery |
---|
This is a practical module devoted to research in public health nutrition and may involve a wide range of techniques. The module is delivered by contact with an individual supervisor. There is provision for other staff to be involved in supervision in cases where this would provide expertise to supplement that of the supervisor. |

Explanatory Text | |
This module is assessed using the two components of assessment as detailed in the Assessment Plan. The first grade represents Component 1 (a written thesis) weighted as major (70%) and the second, Component 2 (oral presentation and defence), weighted as minor (30%). A module grade of D or better is required for a pass, with compensation of grade E in C1 or C2 permitted. Non-submission of either component will result in an NS grade. | |
