Aims of Module
To provide students with the ability to apply appropriate communication skills and evaluate management issues and functional approaches which influence standards of professional performance.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Explain the principles of management, enterprise and marketing initiatives within working practice.

Explain the concept of the human resource and of budgeting and working within cost limits.

Evaluate the communication process including working with groups, individual interviews, the role of meetings and presentation skills in a variety of contexts.

Indicative Module Content
Theory and types of organisation, organisational structures in the private and public sectors. Management concepts and styles. Authority, responsibility and delegation. Group and team characteristics. Policy and strategic decision making. Introduction to management of the human resource. Cost accounting systems, budgetary control and applications. Business reports. Principles of the communication process. Communication in groups: formal and informal. Technical support for presentations. Professional communications: interviewing, counselling, letter writing.
