Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate the socio-economic and political factors manifested in urban conditions, which influence the morphology of community, public realm, and spatial organisation.
2 Appraise the contemporary theoretical discussions and issues on urbanism.
3 Develop skills to critically research, appraise and document various strategic urban design strategies, interventions and practices.
4 Critically evaluate wider trans-disciplinary approaches and community engagement/participatory approaches to appraise, intervene and generate strategic spatial planning and design addressing health, wellbeing and climate change issues.

The focus will also be drawn to case study examples of how urban design strategies integrate transdisciplinary and participatory techniques.

Module Delivery
Students are advised by staff on the scope and nature of the urban design and development issues they wish to study, having real urban/rural context.
