Aims of Module
To develop abilities in the scholarly assessment, evaluation and interpretation of source material and its development through literate and critical argument.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evidence use of a systematic approach to information acquisition and retrieval.
2 Apply an analytical and critical approach to theoretical and conceptual ideas and other information in architectural scholarship.
3 Identify and apply research methods appropriate to the research question, giving due regard to relevant ethical considerations.
4 Formulate, structure, compose, and present a coherent piece of extended academic writing, that demonstrates ability to convey with clarity a convincing and reasoned argument.

Indicative Module Content
The module will provide opportunities for exploration of practical and philosophical issues raised by the progression of the dissertation and associated activities such as research, data analysis and interpretation through regular tutorial contact.

Module Delivery
The module will be introduced through a topic selection seminar followed by regular tutorial contact throughout the period negotiated with individual members of staff.

Description: A written dissertation of approximately 10,000 words (10% + or -), resulting from a rigorous process of independent, critically focused study.
