To develop the student’s knowledge, skills and maturity of application with respect to professional practice, management, and law, which will enable them, on qualification, to carry out their professional duties effectively, responsibly and ethically. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and critical understanding of key aspects of professional practice, law, and management relevant to the role of the contemporary architect. |
2 | Effectively apply knowledge, understanding and judgement relating to building procurement and contractual options in a specific project context / scenario, and justify recommendations made. |
3 | Effectively apply knowledge, understanding and judgement relating to the the business of professional architectural practice in a specific context / scenario. |
4 | Demonstrate advanced understanding of the way in which the various and respective responsibilities of the architect, other design team members, contractor and client relate to the RIBA Plan of Work |
Indicative Module Content |

The module will cover the legal, professional and statutory responsibilities of the architect; the Architects Registration Board; the architect in relation to the building industry; professional and contractual relationships; the RIBA Plan of Work; the principles of planning and building regulation legislation; procurement options for construction projects; building contracts; cost planning and cost control; architectural practice in the wider social context; Health and Safety legislation and the CDM Regulations; Copyright; Insurances and Professionalism and business ethics. |
