Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Develop and research a contemporary design brief incorporating complex design issues, and resolve through a coherent architectural design outcome. |
2 | Demonstrate and apply an approach to technology that strategically addresses low carbon design, human well-being and safety, and environmental and ecological welfare. |
3 | Demonstrate and apply an appropriate conceptual, philosophical, and ethical approach to your design outcome. |
4 | Clearly communicate advanced design thinking and intentions effectively by verbal presentation and visual multi-media techniques. |
5 | Demonstrate a significant level of independent learning through the development of a comprehensive thesis design brief and agenda for Stage 6, that is informed by the work of the module. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Students will work within the themed studio design units to research and resolve a design brief in a specific context, exploring complex design relationships and contemporary design issues, and incorporating consideration of low carbon design and strategies relating to life safety and human and environmental well-being. Students will work individually and collaboratively to develop a professional design outcome together with a comprehensive individual plan and scope of work for their individual thesis project (to be undertaken in Stage 6). |
Module Delivery |

This is a studio-based module with introductory lectures, individual and group tutorials, private study and design work. Students develop work through self-directed learning and through tutor consultation. Students will be expected to consult regularly with tutors and present their work to staff, other students and invited critics at periodic reviews. Final designs will be presented orally and using multi-media techniques in open forum. Tutors provide feedback at tutorials and reviews. |

Description: | The coursework consists of a Portfolio of design work - the portfolio includes drawings, models and all work generated from all tasks related to studio unit: research group and individual work, activities, lectures, tutorials, professional development and independent study. It should include a sketchbook and reflective logbook recording your project development and personal learning journey in a concise graphic and written presentation. Final submission will be by Moodle at the end of the module. |
