To provide the student with an understanding of contemporary architectural thinking and production, and its relevance to contemporary practice and culture. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Identify and describe a range of key ideas, periods, sites, buildings and designs in late 20th Century architecture, and evaluate their significance in relation to the evolution of contemporary architectural practice. |
2 | Discuss in written academic format a chosen topic relating to the evolution of Late 20th Century Architecture. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The module presents a review of a selection of the main features of the contemporary architectural thinking, linking these to relevant works and discussion in contemporary visual art and to influential philosophical, social and aesethic theories. At the same time it allows the student to make particular study of contemporary work in relation to Modernity and Post-modernity. The module emphasizes writing (and oral presentation to a lesser degree) as tools useful in understanding and describing the subject. |

Lectures in the architectural history, theory & social context introduce the broader picture. These are supplemented by seminars intended to develop deeper understanding and self-directed learning. |
