Learning Outcomes for Module | |
---|---|
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Provide a study of contemporary landscape theory with reference to both international trends and a specific geographical area. |
2 | Analyse an existing landscape using a variety of techniques. |
3 | Produce a report indicating an approach to a landscape design, which takes account of the constraints and opportunities offered by a specific site. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The module provides guidance on the analysis of existing landscapes as a basis for future interventions in terms of built form, location and external works. It explores the relationship between the ‘natural’ or given environment and the man-made context. The relationship between aesthetic intentions, function and performance of materials is explored both theoretically and with reference to the work of nationally and internationally recognised landscape architects. |
Module Delivery |
---|
Preliminary lectures introduce the key concepts. A series of case studies of the work of recognised landscape architects are investigated. Ideas relating to the relationship between buildings and landscape are investigated through student seminars. A substantial part of the module is devoted to student centred library based research and visits to significant local gardens or landscapes. |
