Aims of Module
To support the student in demonstrating their creative and practice-based independence by undertaking a substantial programme of self-directed enquiry that confirms their chosen direction, practice, and ambitions, within an appropriate professional context, leading to the production of a body of fully resolved work.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Develop a self-directed practice-based proposal within an appropriate contextual framework.
2 Devise a conceptual, critical, and analytical framework through a programme of self-directed enquiry.
3 Develop appropriate processes and methods through materials, workshops, digital processes and practical competencies leading to the production of a body of fully resolved work.
4 Communicate appropriate research methodologies and technologies through a self-directed practice-based proposal leading to the production of a body of fully resolved work.
5 Justify a sustained commitment to personal and professional studio practice, by exercising autonomy, participation, and independence.

Indicative Module Content
The module supports an extended period of self-directed studio practice, engaging with the behaviours, activities, and energies that a creative professional would normally be expected to demonstrate, leading to the production of a body of personal professional work. Students are responsible for their daily studio activity in terms of both time and project management. The duration of the module enables students to undertake rigorous research and sustained enquiry in the exploration, testing, development, and resolution of ideas through appropriate materials, methods, technologies, and contexts as determined by their emerging creative practice. Studio critiques and an Interim show provide opportunities to present emerging professional work as the focus for peer review and critical dialogue. The completed project work should evidence an awareness and consideration of sustainable themes in a manner appropriate to the context of the discipline. The development of coursework within this Independent Studio Practice module is reciprocally informed by both Contextual and Critical Studies and Creative Futures modules.

Module Delivery
This module is completed through independent practice supported by individual tutorials, studio dialogue and group critique. Studio activity is complemented by lectures, seminars, demonstrations, workshop activity and supported by materials on CampusMoodle.
