Aims of Module
To continue to question preconceptions about Painting and Drawing by exploring a diverse range of approaches to the subject over an extended period of study. To further develop and translate ideas into a visual context while continuing to develop a personal visual language. To gain a sustained studio-based experience essential to the development of a professional practice. To resolve a body of work with appropriate and innovative solutions leading to curated outcomes, audience engagement and consumption.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate, with increasing independence, appropriate methodologies of research in order to identify, develop and resolve ideas clearly.
2 Demonstrate a conceptual and imaginative use of materials, processes and technologies in the realisation of a body of self-directed work.
3 Draw on critical and analytical skills with increasing confidence with regard to key concepts and discourses of Painting and Drawing within a Fine Art context.
4 Demonstrate a high level of professional practice in both studio and/or external practice in relation to Painting and Drawing.
5 Interpret the contextual and critical framework appropriate to the specialist study of Painting and Drawing through textual, oral and visual methods.

Indicative Module Content
The module provides an in-depth extended period of time in which the body of research gathered in Semester 1 Studio module is measured against the student's own ideas and visual interests. The study of ideas, philosophies, processes and issues pertaining to the individual student's chosen areas of exploration. This is then developed towards a substantial body of fully resolved outcomes in which the student is expected to extend their conceptual knowledge and practical understanding of current practice within Painting and Drawing. Drawing is self-directed and applied by each individual student to be considered appropriate, creating a symbiotic relationship between drawing and studio practice. Consideration should be given at this stage as to whether the work requires a specific context in which it must be viewed. Completed project work should evidence an awareness and consideration of sustainable themes in a manner appropriate to the context of the discipline.

Module Delivery
Each student is allocated a studio space and assigned an academic tutor for the session. Timetabled tutorials will take place regularly throughout the semester. All relevant course material is hosted on the module page of Campus Moodle. Although the emphasis in Level 3 is on the individual there are still regular points in the timetable where group and peer learning experiences take place. These could include a range of live presentations/lectures, group crits and discussion groups. The teaching staff are, at this point, responsive to each student's specialised requirements. Organised gallery, museum visits may also take place during the course of the module.
