| On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
| 1 | Formulate a conceptual, critical and analytical framework that informs the realisation of a self-directed, managed programme of creative investigation within a specialist subject. |
| 2 | Experiment with a range of research methods, including relevant theories, concepts, materials, processes and technologies to inform the development of personal creative practice within a Fashion and/or Textile Design context. |
| 3 | Demonstrate the relationship between personal, creative and professional development alongside increasing technical control and working knowledge of specialise materials, processes and technologies. |
| 4 | Demonstrate an understanding of creative design methods, processes, practices and techniques within a wider professional context of environmental, ethical and/or social issues specific to contemporary fashion and/or textile design practices. |
| Indicative Module Content |

| The module further deepens the student's understanding of professional practice relevant to their personal direction. Students will demonstrate selection and application of the most relevant processes, methods, materials and technologies to support the production of a resolved body of work that are appropriate and relevant within a studio and workshop setting. This will typically include: Specialist study within an identified pathway within or between Fashion and Textile Design Development of design work which addresses specified professional context(s) identified through personal practice. The module supports idea generation: design concepts, experimentation and outcomes informed relevant to personal design solutions. Further development of sound critical skills, decision-making and critical self-evaluation through a period of self-directed study. Further development of organisational skills, including personal and project management. The module focuses on evaluating a unique personal approach to design methodology through individual interpretation of project briefs. Students will also actively test and explain the sustainable impact of their practice through participation in a range of public facing initiatives and within professional settings e.g. community, professional agencies and arts organisations. |

| The module is studio and workshop based. It is supported by crits, seminars and lectures, both staff and student led. Projects are introduced or expanded upon using relevant background materials which may include visits to and from professional practitioners, published material, seminars, audio visual presentations and workshop demonstrations. National and international set competition briefs may be included in the range of projects. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside other design disciplines. |
