Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to undertake a period of self-directed study in an International cultural and educational context.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Manage a programme of self-directed study in an International cultural and educational context.
2 Select and apply appropriate methods of research in order to identify, develop and resolve ideas clearly.
3 Use critical and analytical skills with confident independence to gain an understanding of the new cultural context.
4 Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between their personal practice and specialism within a wider professional, historical/contemprary and international context.
5 Produce a body of work which demonstrates a conceptual and imaginative use of materials, processes and technologies.

Indicative Module Content
The module is studies in a partner institution in a European or overseas country. The self-directed project is developed and approved by the parent institution. Students are required to submit a proposal for study which is agreed with tutors. Students will be encouraged to develop their linguistic skills where English is not the first language of the collaborating institution. Students will be expected to maintain contact with the parent institution via Email and Internet technologies. Completed theoretical and practice-based project work should evidence an awareness and consideration of sustainable themes in a manner appropriate to the context of the discipline delivered through their host institution.

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of Fine Art - Stage 3 Semester 1 or equivalent.
Corequisites for module None.
Precluded Modules All Fine Art Stage 3 Semester 2 modules.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Staff of the collaborating partner institution will guide the student to the most appropriate lecture, seminar and programme of study available to them within the partner institution. Where applicable, the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS)or International credits, which includes the learning agreement describing the programme of study abroad, and approved by both the home and partner institution, will facilitate full academic recognition. At the Host Institution, students will be guided towards particular readings relevant to the individual projects and will be encouraged to keep abreast of contemporary issues occurring in their specialist areas.
