Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to investigate visual communication, narrative and interaction within contemporary photographic practice. This module will encourage the student to be self-motivated and take ownership of his or her own practice through a series of self-initiated projects. The aim is to develop individual creative practice and research through on going development and experimentation that will be presented at regular intervals. The work produced in this module will inform the creative intentions or direction for the Major Project.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Acquire independent research skills, collate, organise and critically evaluate material specific to contemporary photographic practice.
2 Develop advanced skills in creative and technical solutions in the design of photographic projects.
3 Establish an individual visual language through the production of photographic projects.
4 Apply appropriate analysis and evaluation

Indicative Module Content
This module is designed to furnish the students with an understanding of the skills necessary for being a practitioner in the professional world. Research, pitching, planning and presentation of materials relating to contemporary photographic practice. The emphasis on learning will promote self-direction and foster an experimental approach to making work which will focus on studio and location contexts developing a personal visual language. Students will identify an audience for their work and or relevance to media usage.

Module Delivery
This module will be taught and delivered by workshops enabling the student to research, plan and pitch a variety of short projects relative to a chosen subject area of professional photography. Tutoring sessions and group critiques will encourage students to evaluate their own performance at each stage of the module directing them to work with greater autonomy. Tutorial sessions will provide feedback on the stages of planning and development along with class critique of work in progress. Class critique sessions will discuss creative and technical intensions and evaluate performance.
